Meadowscaping is a gardening concept that puts a unique spin on traditional gardening practices. Often referred to as a ‘lush emotional garden’, the effect is one of a wildflower meadow rather than a manicured and structured garden. The term ‘meadowscaping’ was first coined over 10 years ago and has been gaining in popularity ever since, with more and more people opting for this naturalistic approach to gardening.

Unlike traditional gardens, meadowscaping eschews the use of formal and meticulously maintained plants, instead opting for a wildflower-like aesthetic. Where traditional gardens might contain carefully designed structure and hard, neat edges, meadowscaping relies on creating a relaxed, soothing atmosphere by incorporating longer and softer grasses, nebular flowers and other vibrant foliage. Through strategic and conscious composition, it is possible to create the feeling of a running meadow on your very own doorstep.

The idea behind the meadowscaping concept is to promote a sense of peace and relaxation, while creating a sanctuary for wildlife. With bees, ladybirds and other pollinator’s struggling to survive in ever-changing urban areas, meadowscaping offers them a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. The abundant variety of flowers also offers a sense of drama, with a range of blooms appearing throughout the seasons.

Meadowscaping is also comparatively low-maintenance; it does require some work to begin with, but after the first planting has taken place it is possible to just leave nature to do its own thing. This makes it a perfect choice for those who want the look of a wildflower meadow without the hard work of having to maintain it.

If you’re considering adding a luxuriously wild feel to your garden, meadowscaping could be the perfect choice. With a variety of different flower types, a low-maintenance regime and a calming aesthetic, it is guaranteed to make any outdoor area a haven of tranquillity.
