Today’s Wordle #621 Hint, Clues And Answer For Thursday, March 2nd

According to my father, I’m not supposed to write about the weather as that has taken up a disproportionate amount of my musings during these Wordle posts. But how can I help it? The snow keeps falling! Our power was out all day Wednesday! Schools are barely open these days! It’s a mad, mad, mad, mad winter. A big W.

But okay, enough is enough. I’ll write about something other than the weather and the passage of time. Right now I’m watching several shows that I can recommend. The Mandalorian is back for Season 3 and I very much enjoyed the season premiere. Then there’s The Last Of Us, which also stars Pedro Pascal in a strikingly similar role (though the setting is rather different). My favorite show of 2023 so far, however, is The Legend Of Vox Machina on Amazon Prime. It’s the best fantasy show on TV at the moment, hands down.

I’m also almost caught up on Apple TV’s wonderful Gary Oldman-led spy thriller series Slow Horses and I can’t recommend it enough. I’m bummed out that after the Season 2 finale I’ll have to wait for Season 3!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

I’ve been getting a lot of opening words that get me into the 200 range of possible remaining solutions and today’s is no different. Clean is a ‘strong opening guess’ according to the Bot, but it left me with an unlucky 228 words.

From here I chose a classic elimination word: adieu, which gave me an ‘A’ in green and just 12 remaining possibilities. Too many to take a wild guess, so I tried to eliminate as many letters as possible with wrote, and was quite successful, eliminating every word except the final answer: above.

The etymology of above, according to ChatGPT, is:

“Above” is a preposition in English, which means “in or to a higher place or position than something else.” Its etymology can be traced back to the Old English word “abufan,” which meant “on top of” or “above.” “Abufan” is a combination of the prefix “a-” (meaning “on” or “in”) and the root “bufan” (meaning “above” or “over”). Over time, the word evolved and eventually became the modern English “above.”

I tied Wordle Bot today so I don’t feel bad about getting this one in four, even though that means zero points for my guess and zero points for the tie which equals zero points. Big fat zero. Still better than a negative!

Your best game would be a hole in 1 (3 points) and beating me (1 point) for 4 total. Your worst would be failing to guess the correct answer (-3 points) and losing to me (-1) point for a -4 total. These are outlier scores, however. Usually my worst is a -2 and my best a +2.
