While there are plenty of sandbox changes still to be announced as Destiny 2 readies its next expansion, Lightfall, the recent revelation about how armor and buildcrafting are changing has given us a way forward in some areas all the same.
Particularly, there was a whole section about how combating champions will change in the future, not just by making artifact anti-champion mods always-on perks, but by giving subclass verbs the ability to disrupt champions natively.
That has all lead to what I would argue is the holy grail of all anti-champion weapons, based on what we know, barring any secret nerfs. That would be Riptide, the rapid-fire fusion rifle that is a dedicated Crucible drop, and can now be focused at Shaxx for 25 legendary shards and an engram.

Specifically, a Chill Clip Riptide. Yes, this technically applies to other Chill Clip stasis fusions like Vow’s Deliverance or that new world drop one this season I can’t remember the name of, but because Riptide is rapid fire, that’s faster slowing and freezing, and as such, faster disruption.
In fact, a Chill Clip Riptide, in theory, should be able to stun all three types of champions when run on a solar subclass. Chill Clip alone can stun two of three without solar. Here’s what’s going on:
- Any weapon can pierce a barrier champion’s shield when you are radiant. It’s easy enough to get radiant, so that applies to our friend Riptide here, like it does anything else.
- Overload champions are able to be stunned by slowing them with stasis. The first shot of a Chill Clip fusion will slow enemies, so in theory, that should be an instant stun.
- Unstoppable champions can be slowed by being frozen and then shattered with stasis. Hit an enemy twice with a Chill Clip Riptide and then shatter it, and bam, you are stunning unstoppable champions too.
So far as we know, Bungie is continuing to not differentiate the effects of weapon perk subclass verbs and aspect and fragment subclass verbs. Freezing is freezing, scorching is scorching, jolting is jolting, etc. That means barring any nerfs, at least from what we’re reading here, A Chill Clip fusion, with Riptide being the best, most easily focused option, should be a killer against two out of three champion types, plus a third with solar’s baseline anti-barrier abilities.
As for your second park, it’s up to you. Lead from Gold will give you more ammo. I like Autoloading so you can just freeze and put it away and it will be ready to freeze again when you whip it out next time, as Chill Clip is only for the top of the magazine.
Again, we do not know what nerfs may be coming that could affect this. Maybe Bungie realized how strong this would be an is making changes accordingly. But if not? This should, in theory, be a champion-destroying monster. I’d grab one.
