Paul Pelosi—the longtime husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi—was arrested late Saturday night in Napa County, California, and charged with driving under the influence, while his wife was across the country to deliver a commencement address.
Paul Pelosi was charged early Sunday morning with driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, according to Napa County booking records.
The California Highway Patrol confirmed to the San Francisco Chronicle that the speaker’s husband—who works as an investment banker—was arrested and booked over the weekend.
Paul Pelosi was released by Sunday afternoon, according to the Chronicle, on what county booking records indicated was $5,000 bail.
A spokesperson for Nancy Pelosi told media outlets the speaker will not comment on “this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast.”
On Sunday, Nancy Pelosi was in Rhode Island, where she was the commencement speaker at Brown University’s graduation ceremony. The Pelosis married in 1963 and have five children together.
