Disneyland’s iconic theme parks located in California and Florida have announced that they will be closing some huge popular rides that guests have come to love and appreciate.
At Disneyland California, two beloved fan favorites will be retired: the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and the Peoplemover, an Adventrues Thru Inner Space will also close. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, the Great Movie Ride, long considered a classic staple, will also close.
The Great Movie Ride, which first opened in 1989, took guests on an in-depth journey through emblematic scenes from Hollywood’s golden age and ended with a viewing of a historical film clip. The Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, an opening day attraction, provided guests with an impactful look at the legacy of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th American President. The Peoplemover, a classic Tomorrowland family ride, was launched in 1967 and has been transporting passengers around Disneyland in its iconic vehicles ever since.
The closures follow Disney’s announcement last year that it would be closing several popular attractions to make room for new experiences. The beloved Tower of Terror and the Boardwalk Pizza both closed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Disneyland California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be using the vacated space to create attractions Guests will be sure to enjoy, but that doesn’t uplift the disappointment felt by Disney Parks’ fans as they say farewell to these beloved rides.
Nostalgia and sadness will linger as these rides leave but Guests will find joy in Disney’s newer attractions. In summer 2020, guests at Disneyland California can enjoy the opening of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway!
For now, guests can still experience these attractions under the theme park’s early closure operating hours and annually pass holders will have access to additional exclusive experiences.
In short, these are definite moments of nostalgia as Disneyland bids farewell to some of its most iconic rides. While a new chapter lies ahead, fans will always remember their adventures aboard The Peoplemover, in awe of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, or feeling like a part of the movies aboard The Great Movie Ride.
