Shares of Chegg Inc. CHGG, -3.40% rose more than 6% in the extended session Monday after the online education services company reported adjusted third-quarter earnings and sales above Wall Street expectations. Chegg said it lost $14 million, or 12 cents a share, in the quarter, compared with a loss of 11 cents a share in the year-ago quarter. Adjusted for one-time items, the company earned $8.7 million, or 7 cents a share, compared with $1.5 million, or 1 cent a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 19% to $74.2 million, compared with $63 million a year ago, Chegg said. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected Chegg to report adjusted earnings of 3 cents a share on sales of $69 million. The stock ended the regular trading day down 3.4%.
